How to distinguish real cashmere?

Genuine, high-quality cashmere comes at a premium due to its scarcity and the meticulous labor process, making it a worthwhile investment that adds longevity and luxury to your wardrobe. In a market flooded with inferior products, it's crucial to distinguish between genuine cashmere and counterfeits to ensure you make the right purchase.

Distinguishing pure cashmere from fake or blended cashmere can be challenging, but there are several methods you can use to help determine the authenticity of cashmere products.

Check the Label: Look for a label that explicitly states "100% Cashmere." Be cautious if the label only mentions "cashmere" without specifying the percentage, as it may be a blend.

Price: High-quality, pure cashmere is generally more expensive than synthetic or blended versions. If the price seems too good to be true, it might be an indication of a lower-quality or fake product.

Feel and Texture: Authentic cashmere has a luxurious and soft feel. Run your fingers through the fabric to feel its softness. Synthetic or blended fabrics may feel rougher, less soft, or even slightly plasticky.

Pilling: Authentic cashmere is less prone to pilling than synthetic materials. Check for excessive pilling, as this may indicate a lower-quality product.

Burn Test: This test is more suitable for experts. Take a small piece of the fabric and burn it. Genuine cashmere smells like burning hair and forms a powdery ash. Synthetic fibers may produce a chemical/plastic smell and form a hard, ball-like residue.

At Kashme, we take pride in not only in our cashmere garments made with 100% pure Mongolian cashmere, but also are stylish, long-lasting, incredibly soft and warm.
